Inauguré en 2004 lors de l’année culturelle “Chênes et Fougères”, ce carré végétal présente un kiosque de kiwis et de fougères et célèbre le lien entre Le Quesnoy et la Nouvelle-Zélande.
Le chêne, symbole historique de la ville. rappelle son nom latin “Quercitum”, qui signifie “lieu planté de chênes”, et figure sur le bason.
Le kiwi, fruit emblématique planté à grande échelle pour la première fois dans les années 1940. évoque également l’oiseau du même nom. symbole national néo-zélandais.
La fougère, autre icône du pays, que l’on retrouve aussi au pied du Mémorial Néo-Zélandais complète cet hommage à la nature et aux échanges culturels entre nos deux nations.
Opened in 2004 during the cultural year “Oaks and Ferns”, this landscaped square, featuring a kiwi and fern pavilion, celebrates the connection between Le Quesnoy and New Zealand.
The oak tree, a historic symbol of the town, recalls its Latin name “Quercitum”, meaning “place planted with oak trees”, and also appears on the town’s coat of arms.
The kiwi, a fruit first cultivated on a large scale in the 1940s, also refers to the bird of the same name, the national symbol of New Zealand.
The fern, another emblem of the country, which can also be found at the foot of the New Zealand Memorial, completes this tribute to nature and to the cultural ties between the two nations
Dit groene plein werd in 2004 ingehuldigd tijdens het culturele jaar “Eiken en Varens” en bevat een kiosk met kiwi’s en varens. Het viert de band tussen Le Quesnoy en New Zealand.
